Innovative lamp location design for high purity water requirements
Xylem’s Wedeco ME UV systems have been specially engineered to meet the stringent requirements set by the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and semiconductor industries.
What distinguishes the ME UV systems is the in-line principle, whereby the water flows through a quartz glass pipe and is irradiated from outside. The result is that the preparation process is kept completely closed, free from built-in parts in the process medium and virtually without pressure loss. Since this is a purely physical disinfection technique, no additives are put into to the water. As part of the production of ultrapure water, the Wedeco ME systems are exceptionally suited for disinfection as well as for ozone remnant destruction.
Materials and surfaces in contact with the water are in conformance with GMP/FDA standards and fulfill the requirements of the food and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally the ME Series can be easily customized to match site-specific requirements (i.e. sterile connections, Tri-Clamp, DIN or ISO). For areas with potentially explosive atmosphere, the systems can be even adapted to fulfil the ATEX directive 94/9/EC.
Easy installation and maintenance
The ME UV system’s electro-technology is housed in a separate control cabinet, and the reactor consists of a quartz glass pipe with external UV lamps and reflectors arranged parallel to the flow.
The centerpiece of the Wedeco ME UV systems is the energy-efficient, Spektrotherm technology. These lamps have a long service life and operate continuously, even at varying water temperatures. Through the combination of high powered lamps with special formed reflectors, higher disinfection efficiency is obtained.
The compact, in-line design guarantees excellent flow conditions with no dead legs and provides an easy fit into existing pipe work. A service hatch enables work to be carried out inside the system, without the need of dismantling the system from the pipe work. UV lamps and sensors are accessible from outside and can be replaced quickly and easily without emptying the reactor. This dry-lamp design is also fouling-free, virtually eliminating cleaning efforts and enabling all UV light to enter the water for peak efficiency. Thanks to selected materials, and a sensor with a measuring window tube, the ME series is also resistant against Cleaning-In-Place (CIP) / Sterilization-In-Place (SIP) operations.
